1 Million Cisterns

1 Million Cisterns

Case Study: Neo Axia’s role in the One Million Cisterns Program

Context:
The Brazilian semi-arid region, a region characterized by long periods of drought, is home to millions of people who have historically faced challenges in accessing drinking water. In response to this need, the One Million Cisterns Program (P1MC) emerged, an initiative led by ASA (Semi-Arid Articulation) with the objective of providing access to drinking water for one million families in 13 states in the Brazilian semi-arid region. Due to the magnitude and complexity of this program, organizations such as Febraban, Fundação Banco do Brasil and Petrobras played a crucial role in financing and supervising the project. Recognizing the need for specialized expertise, Neo Axia was engaged to assist in optimizing and effectively implementing the program.

Challenge:
Reaching the ambitious goal of building cisterns for one million families required robust and efficient structuring by ASA and AP1MC. In addition to logistical and operational challenges, it was essential to ensure transparency and responsibility in the application of resources.

Neo Axia’s Operations:

  1. Process Review and Optimization: Neo Axia conducted an in-depth analysis of existing processes and proposed revisions to maximize efficiency, ensuring that each cistern was built effectively and within established deadlines.
  2. Personnel Structuring: Identifying gaps and areas for improvement, Neo Axia assisted in reorganizing the personnel structure, ensuring that each role was filled by qualified professionals and that the teams worked synergistically.
  3. Information systems: Neo Axia assisted in the implementation and improvement of robust information systems, allowing real-time monitoring of program implementation and facilitating communication between interested parties.
  4. Transparency in the Application of Resources: Working in partnership with financiers, Neo Axia developed mechanisms to ensure transparency in the application of resources, establishing audit systems and frequent reports.

Results and Impact:
Thanks to the collaboration of Neo Axia, the One Million Cisterns Program was able to advance in a more organized and transparent way. The proposed innovations and improvements allowed ASA and AP1MC to reach a large number of families in a timely manner, providing essential access to clean water for communities that have historically faced supply difficulties. Neo Axia's work not only helped achieve tangible goals, but also strengthened trust and cooperation between funders and program implementers, paving the way for future social impact initiatives.
